Portrait of photographer with her dog

Hello and welcome!

My name is Jutta Dobler, I am a photographer based in Berlin (but always happy to travel) and I am obsessed with seeing (and documenting!) your beauty.

  • My first venture into photography was as an artist, combining images, text and sound.

    Solo exhibition Dachau 1992
    Group Exhibition Biella/Italy 1993
    Solo Exhibition Munich 1994
    Group Exhibition Munich 1994
    Solo Exhibition Munich 1995
Book ‘Schwarzer Vogel - Blaue Seele 1995
Co Author ‘Lust an sich’ 1995

14 page photo publication plus title in ‘Ab 40’
    Feature in Elle Germany

  • After moving to Namibia I worked for Associated Press, Agence France Press and the South African Broadcasting Corporation (from 1996 until 2010), covering everything from the war in Angola to the desert elephants, Angelina Jolie’s and Brad Pitt’s visit for the birth of their daughter Shiloh, and the state visits of the German, American and South African presidents.

I also published a photo book about the Namibian Desert Elephants and 5 years’ worth of the ‘Namibia Women’ calendar, and was a regular contributor to various German magazines (Abenteuer und Reisen, Cavallo, Abenteuer und Natur and others).

  • From 2005 to 2008, I also worked at Studio 77, a photography studio in Windhoek, Namibia. We did everything from studio portraits, weddings, advertisement and artist portfolios.

  • My current photographic passions are artistic portraiture and documentary family photography. I love taking photos that express emotions with natural or low light, and that tell stories. Capturing the magical in the mundane and the sacred in the seeming ordinariness of life, and showing the beauty that is still there even if you don't feel like smiling.

I also run courses on creating a poetic Photo Essay that turns your everyday into something magical, both live in Berlin and online.

My journey with photography

Can you see your beauty?

Teenage girl in her room in Berlin

can you see your beauty?

 lost in time
stuck in your head
frightened and proud

but can you see your beauty?

always, always it is there

in your struggle
controlling and cowed
in your monotony
in your doubt

in your blindness lost in the crowd

and then:

the smile of a friend
a bird in flight
a long lost scent
a beautiful sight

your thoughts stop

you awaken

a split second of recognition
a split second of reunion
a split second

of Home

remembering

when you see your beauty

the world will heal throughout
