The up's and down's of life

The things we take for granted, the seeming solidity of our lives, it’s all a perception.

We are so familiar with our lives.

With the things we do every day, with the people we spend time with, with our repetitive thoughts about it all.

This isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

Maybe you are fulfilled in your life as it is right now. Happy, at peace…

If you are not, what is it that makes you feel alive?

For me, I know that I always need to ‘push the edges’. To see what’s beyond.

When I was younger, I expressed this a lot more ‘on the outside’. Having adventures, doing crazy things, moving continents twice…

Nowadays it’s much more of an internal journey.

What do I really feel?
What is really true?
What is all of this about?

There are phases, like right now, when this inquiry comes easy.

And there are others when I know I am avoiding something. When I start ‘zoning out’. Reading one book after the other. Spending hours on Youtube. Looking forward to 6 o’clock which I deemed the appropriate time to have a glass of wine…

I used to be really hard on myself when this happened. But all this achieved was that I spent longer ‘in hiding’.

Life becomes a lot easier when I make peace with the cycles. The ups and downs that are a part of the natural rhythm of things.

No, you will not always be in top form. You won’t always think clearly, or be decisive, or feel good about who you are.

And this is ok. Know that this too shall pass.

Ultimately, you are so much more than this current version, living this current life. None of the problems you have right now can kill who you truly are.

You are an eternal being, having yet another human experience.

Enjoy being in this body while it lasts!
Don’t sweat the small stuff.

And, as Richard Carlson said: It’s all small stuff!
